- Peaceful 2009
This is a simple 1 3 5 3 1 type of rangoli.
Where the E's meet, the illusion of a circle
like a halo persists to give a peaceful feeling,
at least that is what I belive.
I am not separately submitting the DEMON=>ANGEl.
It is quite clear. But this type of figure is
called an ambigram. In some cases, it is easy
and in this case it is hard and am not still
satisfied. Generally, I play like this for
wedding gifts with the bride's name in one way
and the groom's name in the other way. I am told
this type of ambigram is in DaVinci Code.

This is a bit complicated as I substituted a round
candle picture photographed vertically from above
for the letter o. Where the L's meet a beautiful
svAstika (anti-clockwise) is created.
- mOhana
I experimented with various fonts and used a suitable one.
To create a wavelike feeling, I added the letter c to the
bottom of y and made j and y continuous. The four joys
meet at j. In principle I could have used a different
colour for o and make it look like a pearl or coral,
but didn't as new year's day was almost over!

This was done with the word HOPE and its mirror images.
Since the mirror image of H is itself, they were joined together
and the horizontal mirror images of H were overlaid in such
a way that the two lines of E and its mirror image coincide.
Then the H's form a ladder and on the right side, the E's
intercalate resulting in this pattern. The mirror image of
H was chosen deliberately, because hope sometimes is not
real, but only virtual. You cannot touch it. It is like
a dream! Enjoy!
This is one of my favourite kolam. I have drawn this twice, one during the Margazhi month and next during my Thalai pongal. It has got a 3D effect. This kolam bagged me first prize in our colony kolam competition.
Rangoli that I had drawn on a function of Iyyappan pooja in our home. I used color powder and it's my imagination rangoli.
Dear Latha madam,
My name is Sahana, Rajamma madam's grand daughter. I am 9 years old studying in RGPSchool, Singapore in 4th standard. This is one of my rangoli desgins. With my grand mother's guidence I put this rangoli and coloured it myself. I got this inspiration because of the wonderful rangolis or kolams created by the ikolam members.I also got tempted to put my rangoli after seeing Pavan's designs. I have started creating more colourful rangoli designs. Please comment to my first rangoli design.
Dear friend:
Happy New Year to you and to all your
near and dear ones.
Some explanations for this year's card: As you know,
I am nowadays trying to explore the beauty of
letters using symmetry in all languages.
Top left: HOPE (and its mirror image). Hope is
sometimes a mirror image. Is it not?
Top right: JOY. Incidentally an extra curve is
created to y by adding deftly the letter c.
Bottom left: Obvious (PEACE)
Bottom right: LOVE. In place of O, a round
candle is placed.
In the center is the most difficult assignment
DEMON => ANGEL. Still not satisfied.
But for the message, if you hold the card upside
down, the design will not change!
Have a prosperous new year! - mOhana
2009 just born..let us wish and pray it will be a peaceful year through out the world
(look out for the 2009 baby inside the cradle, reaching out for the dove of PEACE).
