Rangoli on new year day. I used color powder, its my own design.
These type of kolams with wet rice mavu can be put for functions inside the house or in wedding halls on the previous day itself and if you add little maida mavu to the mixture then even somebody walk over the kolam it will not get spoilt.
This line kolam can be easily put. It does not take much time.No need of putting dots. Only thing is you need a smooth surface without slop. If you prepare the Maavu and keep it in the FRIDGE, anytime you can put it.In the night when all go to sleep, you can clean the place where you want to put this kolam without any disturbance in a few minutes.Ne need to worry about anybody stumping on it. The wet kolam will dry and when you wake up in the morning and open the door, your kolam will be smiling brightly. This will stay for 2 or 3 days, will not get spoiled by wind.
Preparation and how to use the maave to put the design is given in detail by our friend Jaya Mohan, in her comment in my earlier kolam ( you can refer my Gallery).
This Rangoli drawn for Vaikunta ekadasi. It falls on 7th of Jan, 09, created by Bharathi and self.
The significance of Vaikunta Ekadasi can be traced back to the Padma Purana. The Purana indicates that Lord Vishnu took the form of ‘Ekadasi’ – female energy – to kill demon Muran. This happened during the month of Margazhi. Impressed by ‘Ekadasi,’ Lord Vishnu told her that whoever worships him on this day will reach ‘Vaikunta’ (heaven).
Like all Ekadasi days, devotees fast on this day and observe vigil the whole night. Some people indulge in meditation, Japa and singing of Hari Kirtan. Rice is avoided during ekadashi days as it is believed that the demon Mura finds a dwelling in the rice eaten on Ekadasi day.
The ‘Vaikunta Dwaram’ or ‘the gate to the heaven’ is opened on this day. This is the passage encircling the innermost sanctum of the Lord. Here we go members of IKOLAM who belive can reach this Rangoli Vaikunta Dwaram(gate) & pray god FOR PEACE IN THE WORLD !!!!!!!!!.
This is a flower design drawn by me, to welcome SPRING.I have used food colouring liquid mixed with rice powder and dried.(My mother does not let me use synthetic colours sold in the stores.)How is it?
