Rangoli: Roof to my God's temple - 8

Stars with five-fold symmetry have been arranged in a tetragonal lattice. The overall symmetry is 422 (vertical to the screen four-fold axis with 90 deg rotation, two two-fold axes in the plane of the screen horizonatal and vertical with 180 deg rotation, two diagonal two-fold axes (NE-SW, NW-SE dirns) with 180 deg rotations). The big gaps have been filled with lotus and the small ones with circles. Enjoy!

Rangoli: Roof to my God's Temple - 7

The main motif in this pattern is a triangle. A pentagonal star was created with this. These are packed so that a 4mm symmetry results. The big hollow space was filled with a lotus pattern. Actually this destroys the overall symmetry. A chikku plus sign fills the gaps in the form of a cross. The horizontal and vertical ovals were filled with the distorted lotus. Having patterns with five-fold symmetry and obtaining translations is not an easy task. Enjoy! - mOhana

Rangoli: Hexagons arranged a squares

I remember to have uploaded this. Somehow it vanished (either in my brains or in the blackholes of cyber world). Any way, I am sending it again. The predominant symmetry is four-fold and the motif has six-fold symmetry. As usual, enjoy!

This whole picture was created with only equilateral triangles. Enjoy!

Rangoli: Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Cornucopia is a horn of plenty. During Thanksgiving holidays, it is customary to fill the cornucopia with corn, fruits, bread, meat, wine, etc. Here are two designs with cornucopia (one larger image shown at the bottom) specially made for Thanksgiving-2010. On the top is a Roman coin minted during the reign of Emperor Claudius II with the goddess Aequitas holding a cornucopia in her left hand. However, these days are not great days for one species of birds Wink Happy Thanksgiving for all North Americans! Enjoy!

Rangoli: Best wishes to all ikOlam sisters on the occasion of bhaginI tRtIya

dipAvaLi is a series of festivals. The thirteenth day is the pre dIpAvaLi festivities (we call it nIru tuMbuva habba or jalapUrNa trayOdaSi, i.e. the vessel in which water for the next day's bath is used is worshipped to be blessed), the fourteenth day is naraka chaturdaSi, the new moon day is the dIpAvaLi on which day kEdArESvara is worshipped and lakshmI pUja is performed, the first day is bali pADyami when bali is honoured as in ONam, the second day is the brother's festival (bhAyi dUj) and the third day the sister's festival, the fourth day is nAgachaviti and the fifth day is garuDa panchami. Actually, yamunA, the river with dark waters invited her brother yama on this day on bhAyI dUj. On the occasion of the sister's festival tomorrow, here is one made especially for all the ikOlam sisters. Enjoy the i-gift Smile
