Rangoli: Pitcher plant
Created by Lata on 2009-06-09,

The picture is not very clear, but this is supposed to be a kind of Pitcher plant (Nepenthes). A better picture would be uploaded at a later date.

Rangoli: Gila monster
Created by Lata on 2009-06-09,

The Gila Monster and the Beaded Lizards are supposed to be two toxic lizards in the world.
This is either a Gila monster or the Mexican beaded lizard.

One more experiment of maakolam which I did on my kitchen top - likewise to get it perfect I had to do it more than 4 to 5 times and this is the outcome - next time I will try Lata's suggestion of putting colour in the gaps.

Rangoli: Baking art!
Created by mani on 2009-06-09,

Mani took this picture from one of bakeries located in San Francisco, a few months ago. This is sourdough bread in the making. It happens to be a San Francisco speciality! Pictures have been waiting in my folder ever since, I think Jayanthiji's murukku has got me excited enough to share this edible art with you.

Dosamaavil mattumaa kolam? Murukku maavilum thaan. In Madras, The "SUSWAAD" sweetshop people make mullumurukku in 3 tier, like a kolam design.

Rangoli: Paisley - 2

The paisley design looks like a tear drop or a comma. It is used quite extensively
in embroidering textiles. People juxtapose various sizes of paisley patterns
sometimes. In every household this design is present in a curtain, sari or a
hand kerchief. Here are the last three paisley designs.
