It is a padi traditional kolam. The material which we used are as follows
1) Rice Flour
2) Decorated with flower in the middle of the rangoli.

This design was the first padikolam I had tried when I was just learning how to make kolams using wet rice flour... I tried it again when I am more comfortable with the wet rice flour... it is the same design though with very very slight variation... hope you all like it... I think it is either Jaya ma'am or Rajamma ma'am's original design which I had used at that time and now I have used the same design again (http://ikolam.com/node/7119?p=3147).

Four confocal ellipses were drawn and the bottom portion was cut off. They and their horizontal mirror images were joined at 45 degrees to give the outer and inner patterns. The rest of the rangOli is made up of the usual designs. Enjoy!

Here is a rangoli made of "gold", and the basic motif was borrowed from another basic pattern; http://www.ikolam.com/node/255
Sometimes, all that glisters is gold!
I was in need of new coasters a few months back, and I think this is exactly what I had in mind
