Chikku kolam

Here is an animated chikku kolam. Dots: 9 to 1

Rangoli: Sixth Day of Navrathri Maakolam

This is a maakolam with dot count 4 x 4 with 3, 2, 1 on all four sides... hope you like it

Mirror Kolam

This is a mirror design dotted kolam. There is an outer frame and an inner frame. The dot count varies for the inner frame and the outer ones. The kolam has interlaced dot style, and is one of my favorite mirror designs. The bird beaks at the ends could be replaced by snakes tongue, if one wants. Smile Clicking on the blue button shows you how to draw.

Mahashivarathri rangoli

We would like to wish all our members a very happy festival season. With the winter only couple of weeks away, we are eagerly waiting for the margazhi season to begin! We hope you will share your rangoli/kolam creations with us throughout this auspicious season culminating with the Pongal festival.

Rangoli: Advanced Chikku Kolams

Lata I re-arranged the combination of my kolams and here is the first lot of advanced chikku kolams...

Chikku kolam

This is a chiku kolam from my mom's collection of designs. I had borrowed her notebook of kolams a few years ago, when I had started this site. This design is also for a member of this site (Mr/Ms ilavenil), who had asked about how to get started in making this chiku kolam (http://www.ikolam.com/node/5947)

Rangoli: Margazhi dew drops Kolam contest - 2008-2009

This is straight dotted kambi kolam. 65 dots straight line and 33 dots horizontal line.

I have put this Vinayagar kolam for the Times of India margazhi kolam contest and I won the prize worth Rs.25,000/- Designer saree from RMKV. First I put this vinayagar on paper with pencil. It took 2hrs. Then I thought if I drew this kolam with rice flour, would it take more than 3hrs? So, I started this kolam at 3am in the early morning. Dots tooks 2 hrs, after that I finished Vinayagar at around 8.30am in the morning. Behind my house there is space to draw my Vinayagar. In that place we didn't have proper lights. My father and brothers made some temporary arrangements and fixed a small light, and my sister and brother's wife were also up early morning, and they stood in both sides and gave some feedback every now and then (...it looks nice, good, draw the line properly, correctly). My family supports to me a lot.

Hard work never fails. Its god's gift.

Thanks
With Regards

Chariot kolam / Ther kolam

Some of the well known temples in India initiate a procession with the devotees and the temple chariot also called the rath in the festival season.

Idols of gods are placed in large chariots or raths which are drawn by the pilgrims. The chariots are approximately 45 feet high and have six wheels. Each year, the rath yatra (procession) draws huge number of devotees from all over the country.
