My Malaysia office is already geared up for Deepaavali. and they have put this rangoli with colored rice at the reception. I could not help them, otherwise i would have taken care of all the color symmetry Smile ...but sharing their work

Here comes another different design from my chikku kolam collection. This is Rajam's favourite dot count - inbetween dots 9 - 5. Look forward to your comments and views..

Rangoli: A twist to the sOnA tale! - 4x6 - elimination of 23.

I found a new twist to the sona tale last week. If one chooses a dot matrix whose rows and columns have a common divisor, we know we get more than one line. In the case of 4 x 6 dots (four rows and six columns), we get two lines (shown top left). Now what I did is to isolate a particular dot (2nd row, third column or 23 dot). When joining lines, I skirt this dot. Then, voila, I get a single line, not two. This is shown in bottom left. If I choose this motif and build a sona square, as expected, we get two lines (shown on the right). This is true only for this dot and its symmetry equivalents, not for others. Enjoy!

This is a freehand maakolam I put in the party hall of my apartment on Navrathri last day... I took a photo of the wet kolam before it dries and came back later to take the photo of the dried kolam but unfortunately it was messed up by the time I went to take the photo.
