This photo was taken in the outer Prakaaram of Rameswaram temple.
So many round designs were painted on the roof of the praakaram. This one is a sample.
See the continuation of the petals of the flower.

Nice picture! This is called logarithmic spiral. This is like a nautilus shell (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logarithmic_spiral for details. To an extent, one of my lunatic rangOlis ( http://ikolam.com/node/6816) too is based on this principle. Indirectly, hEmachandra was the first to propose the series that goes by the name Fibonacci series. The above is a very important curve. It is in fact called the curve of life (there is a Dover book with this name).

That's nice. Even in Meenakshi amman temple in Madurai u could see lots of paintings like this.
