Thanks Jayaji. The pulses were glued in place in order to display the rangoli upright, in a school, for International week.

Ms.Suneetha, Please take a look into the following links for a better idea; you can see that the first Kolam has this pattern in it, and you could easily count it (5 dots at the center laid out from top to bottom). http://www.ikolam.com/node/494 Here is an extended animated version of the same basic design, and you need to click the blue button at the bottom of the design in order to see how the strokes are drawn. http://www.ikolam.com/node/274 Hope this helps. :)
