This close up is to show 2 things. One is the decoration around the lamp with coloured stones. The other is that 3 idols of Murugan, Valli and Deivanai are covered with sandal paste {chandanakkaappu]. The idols being copper, needs frequent elaborate cleaning. So, I put chandanakkaappu for all the three. Once in 3-4 months I clean them nicely and again put sandal paste, draw eyes, eyebrows and lips with colour pens. The hanging lamps are given as gift by rajamma for her son's wedding. Unfortunately, it was not working when I clicked this.
This was the Golu kept in my old house 3 years back.now for want of space no elaborate golu this year.
Seeing so many flowers blooming in ikolam garden recently, I too was tempted to do one pookolam but no flowers what to do?? Suddenly I remember an old neighbour of mine - she was a malayalee and used to do lovely pookolams for those 10 days before onam.. Now malayalees are famous for using coconut milk in lots of their dishes so after squeezing the milk from the coconut she used to save the scrappings and mix different colours to it and dish out lovely pookolams.. Last weekend I made malai chicken for which I too used coconut milk and remembered to keep the coconut waste to try my hand at coconut rangoli.. Since I did not have many colours on hand, with whatever colour that was available I had to be satisfied with one solitary flower... I did not have the heart to remove it once it was completed so I just added frills and have enclosed the three different stages for you all to see and (hopefully) enjoy
on the first day of navaratri here is a special kaavi kolam.i used a wet powder so the outlines are not so bold an catchy.
Art with the punctuation mark comma. Two fonts were used. Enjoy!
