Pookolam - no no Coconut rangoli
Seeing so many flowers blooming in ikolam garden recently, I too was tempted to do one pookolam but no flowers what to do?? Suddenly I remember an old neighbour of mine - she was a malayalee and used to do lovely pookolams for those 10 days before onam.. Now malayalees are famous for using coconut milk in lots of their dishes so after squeezing the milk from the coconut she used to save the scrappings and mix different colours to it and dish out lovely pookolams.. Last weekend I made malai chicken for which I too used coconut milk and remembered to keep the coconut waste to try my hand at coconut rangoli.. Since I did not have many colours on hand, with whatever colour that was available I had to be satisfied with one solitary flower... I did not have the heart to remove it once it was completed so I just added frills and have enclosed the three different stages for you all to see and (hopefully) enjoy

The solitary flower is so densely packed, richly decorated. The orange part reminds me of "'gaajar ka halwa"!

very nice ...after dosa batter & now its cocount scrapping...novel idea.....hmm whats next???......i remeberred one artist who was interviewed in TV, he collects used tea dust and the coffee dust from the hotels and makes dolls using it.....so if brown color needed then you can use the used tea/coffee powder .....nice ways for recycling
yes lataji...me too not seeing the recent kolams link....but had in my favorites http://ikolam.com/recent_kolams

Thanks friends for your wonderful comments and encouragement - let's see what to do next... Anirudh infact I had already used tea leaf in one of my kolams earlier (remember the one I filled with chillie, dhanya and saffron powder??)
Yes Lata I too thought of carrot halwa when I saw the kolam on my kitchen slab..
Hehe Rajamma - sathiyama naa poruppu illai

Subashini I am amazed how you dish out different poems everytime - thanks a lot

Good idea, Judy! Is it easy to spread? I'm asking this because it will be very light, no? Did you sun-dry it after adding colors?
