Yes mOhanaji ,the child in me got thrilled to use color pens to draw this design. While returning from my daughter's place my granddaughter Sahana presented me her color pen kit itself to me for drawing new kolams.( instead of me presenting to her).Since me and my grandson were lying down with viral flu for the past 2 weeks to keep him occupied in the bed I thought this is the best way to draw the design in paper using the color pens. Hewas also thrilled to draw in another paper his own design. i sent this entry mainly to thank Sahana.

Lovely colours Rajamma - I like this one and you have done it correctly here (hehe)... But I think you should have chosen some other colour instead of green for the outside flower na?? (sorry, my mum's opinion please - she could never accept any flower coloured green, even when she bought sarees or any dress material she would make sure the flowers are not green)..

yes Rajammaji, i too have seen the green kankaambara. but it alone does not make a good maala, but when mixed with red/magenta or orange(most common) ones looks beautiful.....and you have put it next to magenta, so good here too :)

Come to think of it, I haven't seen kanakambaram flowers in green at all. I'll hunt for it when I get a chance the next time.

How many petals do kanakAMbarams have? I believe they have a gap instead of a sixth petal. That does not mean that this rangOli is wrong. It can be any six petaled flower. Regards! - mOhana

I have a couple of orange Kanakambaram plants. I see that there are five petals, with a big petal in the center, and a pair of petals fused on both sides of the center one. And yes, there is big gap towards one side of the stalk, sort of looks like a half-flower. http://www.ikolam.com/node/7580
