This is my first pongal kolam. It is made with color sand.

This is our Pongal kolam. It took almost four hours to complete. But unfortunately it was not there for more than half an hour after completion. The ten minutes rain washed it away. I could see only the marks of the kolam after the rain. But i ve got the photos n memories of my kolam.

Kolam done on Pongal by me.... My friends Sasikala and Swathi helped me....
Dot Pattern: 13 to 7, in between dots(sandhu pulli)
Sparkle colors were used for the big flowers...

Pongal kolam - I put this in my house yesterday. We mixed the rice powder in the kolam powder so that it looks bright. In the colour powder we mixed sand ( fine powder) so that it will be easier to draw.

The colorful kolam tradition dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization (2500 B.C). Kolams were often drawn with coarse rice flour since it served as a food source to nature's creatures like ants and crows. Rice flour is seen as an offering to Lakshmi, the goddess of rice and wealth.
