Rangoli: Santa Tesselation

Since Christmas is fast approaching and children are
awaiting eagerly the arrival of Santa Claus with
many gifts, I thought I'll upload a Santa picture I drew
with hand in 1981 without any computer assistance.
This is a tesselation. That means the whole space
is packed without any gap with pictures. The most
famous pictures like this are drawn by Escher.
I have drawn several such pictures afterward.
But this is my first and I love it still!

Merry Christmas to you all!

Rangoli: Star of David - Fractal :-)

This is a modified version of the Star of David.
Occupying one third of the side of each equilateral
triangle, add another triangle of one-third side
length in the middle of each side. If one goes on
doing this infinitely, one gets a fractal Star of
David! Mathematicians call these type of curves
Peano curves. Even though the operation is carried
out infinitely, the area of the curve is finite. I
did this entirely on the computer, not with hand.
That is why the thickness of lines is different.
Please bear with me for that. Enjoy and comment!

Rangoli: Flowers and Bees

This is a stylised drawing of flowers (red) and bees (blue). The flower has four petals and is made up of the telugu letter vi. the first lesson in symmetry is we cannot have a five-fold symmetry and extend it infinitely. But there are a few flowers with four petals. The bees are in blue, made up of the telugu letter ri. viri in telugu means flower. Enjoy and comment!

By the way, the svAstika drawing was made up of the tamil letter Ta.

Rangoli: Swastika

I saw some svAstika rangOlis and thought it fit to upload this among the several I created. Actually, it was not my intention to create the svAstika. I was trying to create patterns with a Tamil letter. The svAstikAs were the result.

The puzzle is: find out the letter!

Rangoli: Jalajam (Lotus)

This is a familiar rangoli with a twist. The lotus pattern is obtained with letters that spell jalajam in telugu. jalajam means lotus. The anusvAra (sunna) at the end of the word all meet in one circle forming a common letter for all six. Enjoy!

Rangoli: Beetle leaves Rangoli

After viewing Smti Sumati's betel leaf arrangement, I wanted to create one. Unfortunately, as winter settles in, I don't have betel leaves. So the next best thing is, I got a "virtual" betel leaf and from that created many arrangements. I am enclosing this one as this resembles a familiar rangoli.

Rangoli: muggu with telugu letter e

This rangoli has been created with the telugu letter e ( as in egg). This letter has a small circle at the bottom left and a curved stroke going about ninety degrees. The circle for all the four e's related by symmetry is common giving the whole picture an appearance of a flower with four petals or a svAstika-like motif. The whole picture can be extended infinitely in either direction.

Rangoli: Questions and exclamations - 2

This rangoli has been created using the punctuation marks of question (?) and exclamation. Life is full of questions and all of a sudden the answers come from nowhere like exclamations! This one has three-fold symmetry. Note how the three question marks come together to create the illusion of a flower-like appearance.
