Yes, this would be helpful. Here in California, I see some of our friends running around to find out if some of their friends' mom is visiting so they could get some help regarding this matter. Usually there is a higher need to know this technique during the Annual tamil/regional play presentations. Smile

This is true for men too. Recently for a Chinmaya mission function, I had to help my colleague to tie his angavastram. He was acting as Krishna Smile These "tasteful" links explain the sari tying procedure. The third link is, I think, for the marAThi way.

STEPS FOR DRAPING 9 YARDS SARI

1. Make 5-6 pleats and place this at your back from your left hand side.
2. Then make a wrap of your saree from left side to right and again to left as one round and tie this as a knot joining the one end of saree with your first wrap(round). Keep your legs apart and place your feet at the bottom of the saree for a hold.
3. Then tuck on the centre at two ends on your front side as similar to a bag.
4. Take the rest of the portion of your saree to your back from the bottom of your legs and tuck this in your waist band at your back. Make a Kachai and see to that this kachai comes till your knees. So that it is easy to walk and sit.
5. Then make a small tuck again from your right hand side.
6. Take make one round wrap from your left hand side. This wrap should be done as a roll and do not spread the saree here.
7. Make one more round of wrap(round) to put on the pallu on your right hand side.
8. Tie the pallu end to your right hand side making one wrap and tuck in.
9. Then final touch is to slowly separate the roll that you made earlier in step 6.

Hope this would help.
