Rani, Hanukkah is a festival celebrated by Jewish people. Hanukkah is also known as the Festival of Lights (like Diwali). It commemorates the Maccabees' victory over the Syrian king. During Hanukkah, people light a candelabra called Menorah for eight days (one candle a day). Kids play with driedel (a top). One of the dishes that is prepared is potato Latkes (think of latkes as sort of shredded potato adai/pancake fried in oil). My daughter is more familiar of Jewish celebrations, since she got invited to lot of Shabbat nights (dinner on friday evening before sunset), and, special occasions like Bat Mitzwahs (coming of age for girls).
