actually pongal season in Tamilnadu is the kiteflying season in Gujarat. In fact on Sankranthi day people gather in open places and fly kitesall over Gujarat. it is a State holiday. It is one of their traditional festivals and is celebrated with a lot of fanfare. may be you are from that area- so you have clubbed pongal and kites!
