Navrathri recipes

Anyone got any favorite dish that you make during Navrathri, apart from the usual Sundals? I'll be honest with you; I'm tired to trying the usual tamilian stuff over and over again. I would like to try something different, and I don't want to experiment with the recipes taken over the net. Know what I mean? Smile

Hey I know its really getting the same sundal where ever you go , so why not make some batata vada without onions, or puli avil or Mysore bonda.

Lata, you know 'kunukku' similar to paruppu vadai? Take one measure of rice & one measure of all dhalls mixed. Grind to a coarse batter like adai maavu. Add chiilies, salt etc, Keep aside for 6 to 8 hours. Deep fry like pakodas/vadais in oil.

Yes, I think the onion factor prevents us from including many other dishes into the menu. Batata vada without onions is a good alternative. Smile

I intend to try kunukku in the weekend. Sounds easy enough. Smile

Here is a sweet recipe which can accompany 'kunukku', this is a traditional one and the name is 'wheat appam' (we call it as choiyyan).
Ingredients:
Atta - 1 cup, rice flour - 1/4 cup, sugar - 1/2 cup, (jaggery can also be used in place of sugar), elakkai powder - 1/4 tsp, grated coconut - 1/4 cup, banana - 1 and oil for frying.
Make sugar syrup with 3/4 cup of water and put the coconut in that and boil for a minute. Let it cool for 5 minutes. Mix atta, rice flour, elakkai powder and pour this syrup and mashed banana and make a batter of idly maavu consistency. Now heat the oil and pour the batter with a small chutney spoon at the center of the kadai. when it comes up, turn it and then another one can be poured in the oil. Only two or three can be made at a time. Hope you will enjoy the taste of the sweet:)
