Hi,though am member for long time, am not active, lemme start sharing first with my golu fotos. Navarathiri is one of my favorite festivals. Hv started after my daughter born. Most of the dolls are from my Mother -in-law,Tanjore.
The kondapalli dolls and calcutta dolls have bought in hyderabad.
Expecting to do more this year, as my daughter has grown uo and more interested in doing arts and crafts.

Wow the chettiar bommai is so cute... I wanted to possess this type for a long time...and I loved the wooden set at the left... it brings back memories of my childhood when I had a set like this and used to love it a lot...

Nice dolls. Why do you call it cheTTiyAr set? The couple can be any Hindu grocery sellers.

the hindu grocery sellers (okay-ya jkmrao sir) is made of paper mache.
the wooden set, what we call chouppu saman, we bought it in Meenakshi temple, Madurai. I stil remember how i was stubborn, till my father got it for me. as you said i used enjoy playing with all kinds of choppu saman(wooden, plastic, maavu kal, stainlesssteel).
So now i got one for my cute lil daughter.

mOhanaji, Chettiars were famous for their grocery business! Mostly they run family business in which wives also take active part, hence this pair of doll is referred to as 'chettiar set'!

I Love chettiyar bommai..But I forgot to get Marapachi and chettiyar bommai from India..I love them a lot, but how did i forget
