Blizzard of 2010
Before we survived the 30 inch snowfall, the blizzard hit us, the fifth we experienced during our stay in this country. It was indeed ferocious. Imagine nearly 100 million people imprisoned for nearly 48 hours in their own homes at a stretch. Our county seems to be one of the worst hit in the area. It is not the snowfall, which too was considerable, more than 20 inches. It is the wind that blows the snow around causing drifts of four to five feet. On the highways where dozens of cars and trucks got stuck, the drifts were more than ten feet. Several sections of the interstate and the state highways were closed for traffic. They said as far as the winds are concerned, this is like a category one hurricane! Any way, today is the day-after, the day when everybody digs out. In the pictures attached, you can see snow mounds, the cars barely visible and the digging out. The top left and the bottom right were taken during the storm from inside the house. The top right is just before we began to dig out. As a memento, I made a rangOli with a snow shovel arranged hexagonally (snow crystals have that symmetry, is it not :-). In the centre, you'll see a circular heap of snow. O my, the whole body is aching

I heard from Mani that on that day it had snowed in all the 49 states (except Hawaii).
Cute looking snow shovel.
