Largest Rangoli!

This is a old bit of a news, from the Hindu:

BANGALORE: Survarna Jyothi Trust has planned to set a new world record of the largest Rangoli at the Palace Grounds here to mark the Republic Day.

N. Gopalakrishna from the trust told reporters here on Saturday that a 1.5 lakh square feet Rangoli, named “Akhanda Bharata”, will be created by 750 persons.

The Guinness World Record of largest Rangoli is 48,388 square feet in May 2005 at Hosur in Tamil Nadu by 50 individuals.

Various subjects and themes of India will be created through the largest Rangoli, which will be inaugurated by the former Lokayukta, N. Venkatachala, at 3 p.m., on January 25 at the grounds near Mehkri Circle. The Rangoli will be open for public view on January 26 and January 27.

I wonder if they were able to make this rangoli and enter into the Guinness book of records. Does anybody have any pictures of this rangoli? Please post if you do!

Well...according to this news story from journeythroughindia.com, this is an attempt at the largest rangoli record:

Patak's giant Rangoli pattern was made from colourful foods including yellow split peas, green and red lentils, maize, kidney beans and pink delphinium petals, and measured 896.5 square metres when complete.

An application has now been submitted to the adjudicators at Guinness World Records, who will decide whether the Rangoli pattern can be registered as an official record. The previous record measured 865.85 square metres and was set in India on 30th April 2005.
