Grocery bags
Yes I agree with you Lata - those days we used to carry only cloth bags to the market or to any shop for that matter, as plastic bags were not the in thing then.. I remember when my mum went to Australia in 1984 for her sister's daughters wedding she collected so many colourful plastic bags (my aunt and everyone there laughed at her) because it was not available in India - the colours, shapes and designs were awesome... She even brought so many empty plastic ice-cream, dessert containers for us to use here.. And the world is choking because of this stupid plastic (what a crazy world)...
Couple of months ago I had to cut 4 of Gerry's jeans to make them into 3/4 pants as he grew out of them. Suddenly I got a bright idea and see what I finally made... Since I dont have a machine at home I hand back-stitched the entire bag myself... I also managed to get a matching bit from my salwar to decorate the bag.. HOWEEZITT!! (ISHTILISH MARKAT PAI)

Judy, is it not difficult to handstitch layers of jeans cloth? The end product is worth the strain.

What a way to recycle the old jeans! The bag looks cool, and stylish! Thank you for sharing them here.

Thanks guys for your kewl comments
Yes Jaya it is very difficult to handstitch layers of jean material and I have to use the thimble (angoosthan right??) or else I will have holes in my fingers - but since I like what I am doing I find it easy and yes when I see the finished produce I am very pleased.
Earlier I had made one with his light blue jean but that was very plain and simple.. This time I tried adding a border to make it look better and if it had a zip and a better looking handle I am sure Anita would have wanted to take it to college na?? Have 3 more pairs of left over material, let me see what I can do.

very nice and ethnic too. stitching denim materials by hand is very strenuous.
we recently moved to hongkong - the govt rule is that the people have to pay 50 cents for every plastic bag -we see that 90% of the people including children make it a point to carry a bag. even men carry a folded bag in their laptop bags . they dont feel its after all 50 cents - i think we should bring this feel too- i have seen so many shops giving extra covers to customers so that they can carry their other shopping things

great work Judy , i agree it is very difficult to handstich the jeans cloth even without using the sewing machine but there is always question on the durability of the handstiched bags , last year i bought some replica purses which is very durable but not handstiched.

Thanks friends for your wonderful comments...
Actually Brendon you are partly right and wrong - things that are hand stitched are not very durable sometimes.. My mum's sewing machine was under repair so she hand stitched a top for her skirt about 2 years ago and still uses it.. Maybe the strength of the thread and the way it is done counts too.... My first (waste jean) market bag is more than a year old and is still going strong - in fact that was hand stitched too

Definitely a master piece , i think handmade bag making involves not of lot of skills but also they involve the some handwork as well and patience i understand the amount of time spent on stitching those bags by hand its dam difficult i also stitch some handmade for display.
