I took this photo when we visited the Tanjore Temple. This is Pragatheeswara temple Vimana (Kopuram). How is it?

When I see the old temples with huge gopurams I wonder how it was done centuries back when there was no cranes and other transpotations! Iam yet to visit Thanjavur and Gangai Konda Chozhapuram temples!

Nice picture of this temple Indra. I visit this temple whenever we go to India. I was searching for a picture of the Nandhi in my collection, but I couldn't find it. (There is one more box of pictures that I have to open, but I just don't have the time).
My sisters in law live in Thanjavur. There is a "wish-granting tree" located in the temple somewhere in the open area, did you come across it.
My daughter still has pieces of bark saved up from that tree (she collected that 7 or 8 years ago).
There is also a secret entrance, a small one, from one of the aisles inside the temple, and you could see the topmost part of the Gopuram from that particular spot. The local people are aware of this special spot.

They say that the speciality of this gopuram is that it is constructed in such a way that the shadow of the gopuram doesnt fall on the flooring

ms.jayamohan if you want to know how the gopuram was built, you should read 'udaiyar' book by balakumaran.
you will be amazed by the chola work.

Dear Malarkamal (another pretty name!) I will definitely get that book in the annual book fair and read.
