We're sharing a member request for information regarding the contest rules for people who have already won a contest, here at ikolam. Question is; can winners participate in contests within the same year, or should skip an year?
We would like to hear your thoughts.

I accept with Jayamohan mam, Winners should skip an year! We should give chance to all the participants. This is my humble opinion Lataji...

I personally feel that members who have won can participate but they should not be given the first 3 prizes, but if their kolam entry is good maybe they can be selected in the special prize category. This way both are happy  This is just my view dear Lata.

My view is that ,
1. Winners(1st,2nd and 3rd ) can participate but should not be considered for prizes
2. Winners of a contest should skip participation in the subsequent 2 contests, (irrespective of whether the next contest in announced in the same or the next year )
3. If we restrict the participation / submission of entries by winners, will we have sufficient /more entries ( fulfilling all the conditions of the contest ) by other members?
BTW what is winners views on this Question ( can winners participate in contests within the same year, or should skip an year?)

The contest time is when people try to excel themselves so that their work is of a high standard. Whether one wins a prize or not, there is an incentive to produce a work of high quality. In that way, more work of high quality is produced so that everyone can view them, enjoy them and of course comment on them. If we say, well lady, you have won a prize, you cannot participate for some time, where is the necessity to produce some outstanding work. Even if many produce great work during normal days, still the work during the competition is always uniformly of a higher standard. My own feeling is - let there be no restrictions, it is a free world, everybody will ultimately win. What I sometime feel is - some people produce work only during the contests and are quite silent during the rest of the year
So the criterion may be - all contestants must have submitted at least ten rangOlis in the previous six months. (My suggestion is what is known as throwing the curve ball

I agree with JKM sir...personally what i feel is contest includes different aspects..theme, coloring, neatness n overall design....some may excel in some aspect n some in another..which may vary in diff times..so everybody shld be given a chance to show their creativity..n above all there is joy even in participation...:)

The great singer Lata Mangeshkar announced that her name need not be considered for any film song awards. We all know that she is the uncrowned gueen (kuyil) and only when her name is not included then only others will get a chance. But she also decided on that conclusion only after winning SO MANY awards over a LONG period. So we have to leave this option to the person concerned.
Second one is, if they want to participate in ikolam contest then they should be an active person with atleast some kolam uploads in their gallery in the recent past, as Mr. Rao has suggested.,
Third one is , if a member gets prize in Diwali kolam contest, next year for the same contest they can skip.
I too feel the number of participation should not go down with all these rules.
At the same time I whole heartedly admire and appreciate the enthu with which so many people upload their creations even though they themselves know that it is not going to be the winning entry. I salute their greatness in just participating and sharing what best they can do.

I go with pushpa, winners can participate but should not be considered for first 3 places, if we restrict them, we may be the looser , all beautiful kolams will be missing.

I have a simple question. There are many gifted children among you who participate in debates, dances and music programs and also in academic pursuits. Since they are really good, they win prizes year after year. Should we tell them - please don't participate, you have already won a prize last year, give a chance to somebody else. Let me know. Let everybody participate. Then only we can view the best kolams/rangolis and enjoy them.

Suguna, I don't think I can get away with "no comments".

I'm just taking some time ( going through a strange post-Margazhi restlessness phase and a good dose of migraine for accompaniment). |(
I spent my morning moping around, and then was able to kick myself up, so you will hear soon from me.

Maybe there can be two categories. Kolam and Rangoli.
