Kolam display

ALL RANGOLIS GET PUBLISHED IN THE FRONT PAGE (SLIDESHOW & THUMBNAILS).

There are 3 ways to view the rangolis.

1). "Rangoli" from the top menu: shows all rangolis that are published.

2). Slideshow: This space is looked upon as a "TV" screen, from our perspective, as a snapshot for what is in store, like commercials for a brand! And so, we publish designs that are without many flaws (kolam image is centered, good clarity, and mostly made by members who have had some practice). There are 5 categories (freehand, dotted, tutorial, festival rangolis, crafts). Only 6 images can be shown at any category, for now. And images in each category get displayed in a rotational manner, as they get tagged for the slideshow.

3). Front page thumbnails: ANY rangoli can be shown in these slots (4 in each category). It does not matter how much time has gone into producing any rangoli, be it small or big. Yes, rangoli that are of mediocre nature (due to camera/clarity issues) also get published here. If we remove the thumbnail regions, half of the page will be empty. Let me remind everyone that in the previous version of the site, there were only thumbnails and no slideshow.

There are advantages and disadvantages in displaying rangolis, in both slideshow and the thumbnails. The advantage for the rangolis appearing in the slideshow is that the display size for the image size is bigger. But, the images get rotated, so unless they get clicked upon, they may not get "complete" attention. The advantage of showing a rangoli as a thumbnail on the frontpage is that they are not rotational, and tend to get "complete" attention from almost all visitors.

While redesigning the site, I spent considerable amount of time in planning to allocate the different spaces/slots to showcase the rangolis belonging to all categories. In terms of getting discovered, and being seen more, rangolis that are shown as thumbnails have more visibility than the ones getting shown in the slideshow.
