Today is vernal equinox. The long winter is over at last. Let us celebrate the arrival of spring. Try to remember the songs of spring. Please list your favourite songs of spring having the word vasanta or its equivalent in any language. If possible, give the urls for the songs (youtube or other links). Here is one from the movie stree - basant hai aayaa rangeela ( http://www.hummaa.com/music/album/Stree/9563 ). One of my all time favourites is from this movie (O nirday preetam). Let us enjoy!

"OO oo ooho nirdhayee preetham, pranaya jagaakke hridhaya churaakke chup huvee kyoon thum" what a song and the touching lyrics song by Lataji with so much bhaav.... this is my favourite also. I equaly admire Lataji's one more song "Kuch dhil ne kahaa kuch bee naheen, kuch dil ne sunaaa kuch bee nahee'' both the lyrics and the the way Lataji has rendered it are amazing.
Regarding Vasantham, how can anyone forget " kaalangalil aval vasantham " !

nice topic sir.
sudha, its from movie "guri" ...dr.rajkumar sings for his sister (tara) in the movie.
chandy ma'm, thats our favorite too :).
another one is "vasantha baredanu olavina ole" movie:besuge, by vanijayaram & spb.
and more wellknown which used to sing in school...."vasantha banda...ruthugala raaja taabanda" i think its written by b.m.srikantayya and in air mostly sung by h.r.leelavathi/h.k.narayana (sir, pls correct me if i am wrong).
some how i feel "madhuram madhuram akhilam madhuram" (i like both ms aswell as vanijayaram versions) is apt for this season....as it makes us to feel everything is new and beautiful in nature.
rajammaji, thanks for giving one of the old wonderful melody of lata mangeshkarji, i had not heard of it, just got ot check in youtube....its equivalent (as per story) "priyatamaa karuneya toreyaa" by vanijayaram in kannada.

A note to the musically inclined -
In most of the songs and poetry, the season of spring, vasanta, is associated with koels singing in panchama svara (the pa note). But do you know, in karNATaka music system, in vasanta rAga, there is no pa note whereas in the hiMdustAnI basant, there is pa. By the way, there are very few film songs in vasanta rAga (andi mazhai is one). For classical music fans, the tyAgarAja kIrtana sItamma mA yamma is in vasanta rAga.

Yes I too like the madhurAshTakam by vANI jayarAm. I have several versions of this ashTakam and I feel this is the best. I have an mp3 of this. Another interesting feature of this is before each stanza, SPB will hum a svara, starting from sa and ending in sa, eight in all. The song may be heard here - http://www.raaga.com/player4/?id=168763&mode=100&rand=0.13665983700650908
Actually all songs in the movie (malayamAruta - http://www.raaga.com/channels/kannada/moviedetail.asp?mid=K0000480 ) are quite good, yEsudAs singing quite a few melodious songs.
