This is a novel sOnA square. In my blog http://www.ikolam.com/node/19870 , I tried to reproduce the rangOli of Mrs saumyA vijay. While the outer pattern is exactly similar to hers, the inner pattern of mine is quite different. I drew a single line pattern for the same dot motif. With that inner pattern of mine, I made a sOnA square with two lines. This is a pattern that can be drawn on a 9 x 9 dot pattern (white dots, green dots are for ornamentation, they do not count). With the remaining dots at the centre, I made a svAstika. You may also see tiny lamps (five dots with a green centre) and kuttuviLakkus distributed throughout. Enjoy!

I painted this Alpona for rangoli display - Diwali 2010
I made this Alpona (kolam) on Vasant Panchami day. As Lakshmi said, here in West Bengal, people celebrate it as Saraswathi Pooja. The children make small pandals, bring the idol of Saraswathi and perform poojas on this day. They wear small sarees during this festival. So we can get many types of small sarees for children during this period.
Here is a small offering to Maa Saraswathi and let us pray her to shower her blessing on our children.
Pongal is the festival for worshiping the nature like sun, moon & farmland, etc. Today the direction of sun also changing from Dhakshinaya to Uthrayana...Our energy source Soorya Bhaghavan majestically coming around the world in a chariot, that's why in Tamil Nadu people used to make ther kolam on Pongal day. your views please.....
