It has been my dream to make a rangoli that represents one of my favorite plants; the Pitcher plant - Nepenthes. There are many variations when it comes to the shape and color of the Pitcher plant. Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants. Plants consist of specialized leaves in the shape of a pitcher which contains liquid. The insects get attracted to the pitcher and drown in the liquid. The plant absorbs the contents over a period of few days. The comments tag leads you to a detail page, that has the flies-animation file. There are 8 flies zooming around that get settled (trapped) on the dots that were intentionally left over within the pitcher (2 per pitcher). This is a dotted kolam; 15x1, parallel style. Here is one species of Nepenthes:

The flower is equally interesting both in terms of the petal-shape and color:

This is the first cross stitch kolam i tried...It is a very simple carpet design

Inspired by Mrs.Rajam. Dot count: 15, 13 (2lines), 9 (2 lines), 5 (2 lines) and ending in 1 dot on all sides. I had made a colored version of the same last year and published it here. But, I had to unpublish it after an hour or so, since I didn't realize that I had published the same dotted kolam done by another member. But, this version is an animated one, as promised to Mrs.Rajam. Let me know what you think of it.
Here is the original version: http://ikolam.com/node/3382

This is my animated version of the Bluebells kolam. Hope you like it.
The festival of "UGAADI" is celebrated on the first day of Telugu/Kannada new year every year. Each year has got it's own specific name. The name for this new year is "SARVADHAARI" (on the same basis ,we have 2007/08 and so on as per English calender}.
On this day telugu people prepare "UGAADI PACHADI"( chutnee}using six ingredients (SHADRUCHIES} such as SALT, GREEN CHILLIES {in some places pepper is also used}TAMARIND, NEEM FLOWERS, JAGGERY AND RAW MANGOES. The philosophy behind this is that life is a mixture of experiences and we have to face it with an even mind.
Myself and my friend Bharathi got an idea to create a rangoli using above items. So we created a rangoli with pepper and other one is without pepper, mango leaves, neem leaves, flowers, bananas, turmaric, kumkum boxes are only for decoration. Any how it is a festival day, these items are also giving auspicious look. By seeing this rangoli younger generation knows what items to use for "UGAADI PACHADI".
WE WISH ONE AND ALL A HAPPY UGAADI.
THANKS.

Hello Kids!
Have you ever made a kolam with storks? Here is one if you have not tried any.

- Connect the dots.
- Fill the storks with your favorite colors.
