This kolam picture was sent to us by Mythreyi Varadarajan from Chennai, Anna nagar. And, since she had named her brightly colored kolam "Kanu", I'm guessing that she had made this kolam for Kanu pongal.

Pongal was celebrated in CTA (California Tamil Academy) at the De Anza college campus. The colorful pongal kolam was done by parent volunteers Mrs.Vasuki and Mrs.Babitha.
