mOhanaji,I want to share something here. Sashank smells, rain, thunder and lightning much before it arrives. He will run to all rooms to close the windows and doors put all curtans, and avoid seeing outside. To remove the fear in him I used to tell him that the trees, plants, birds and animals have no light outside to see and no water to drink so God is providing them by lightning and rain. On hearing the thunder music they dance with the wind to thank God. On hearing this slowly he started looking out thru the window to enjoy the rain. Your poem and the lightning kolam take me nearer to HIM.

Yes, right way of removing the fear from children. I too used to tell small children that a celebration is going on in Heaven, what you see as thunder is the 'melam' and lightnings are the flashes from God's camera! Just like we see musical rhythms in all sounds, mOhanaji makes rangoli patterns with anything and everything!

My grandma used to say that god was cooking in his kitchen and when all his vessels fall down it is thunder. Lightning was the same as Jaya's - the camera concept, but rain was the funniest - she used to say that God is having a shower bath and it amused us a lot to think that he was so big as he was using so much of water.. Thanks to JKM for giving us a chance to revive old memories.
