Wow, lakshmi mam - Nice padi kolam and beautiful application of kaavi. As you were always asking for some suggestions, though I may be younger to you would like to suggest you one thing. In your padi kolam, I could see five ezhais, which is an odd number. My mother would always tell us that traditional kolams or padi kolams should be made with even number ezhais like 4, 6 or 8..... as odd numbers are not auspicious for these type of kolams. We have some senior members here like Rajam mam, Jaya mam etc..... May be they can clearly explain why we should not use odd number ezhais for padi kolam. Lakshmi mam, this is only a suggestion. Please do not have any hard feelings for this. Mahalakshmi

very nice design in padikolam. The kolam looks little dull may be because of t rice powder used. even then it looks like a 'soft beauty'. Regarding number of ezhai, only we avoid three ezhais in padikolam since elders consider 3 is not auspicious. 5 lines we use. But most people used to draw double ezha while drawing padikolam so it has become a custom to put even number in padikolams. rajamma

Excellent lakshmi. Usually most of the traditional padikolams are drawn using double strokes. The multiplication of double strokes are always even in number. Hence we see padikolams with 2,4,6,8 etc no. of strokes.

Lakshmi mam, thanks for your comments. Till these days, I was thinking that padi kolams cannot be made in odd number of ezhais. But Rajam mam and yourself has clarified that. Mahalakshmi
