Indians are hero worshipers! While they hoisted Ten on their shoulders around the stadium, why did they not honour their own captain MS who is their representative and who actually played the proverbial captain's knock? Perhaps sentimental? Alas, nobody in all the euphoria seems to have spared a thought for Mahela for his really beautiful century, all poetry in batting. In the culture of intense Indianness, we relegated the losers. Imagine India had lost, but Ten made a century. Then we would have forgotten the winners and made a big deal about the century. Jayawardana's was the first century in a losing cause (the other WC final centurions are Lloyd, Richards, Aravinda Silva, Gilchrist and Ponting). rANI ma'am, I beg to disagree with you - each captain is an individual and therefore has his own individual style. Azharuddin never used to interfere much with his players and used to support them quite a lot, allowed them to set their own fields. By the way, he was perhaps the best middle order batsman and one of the finest fielders India produced in the ODI format. As for Ganguly, the cricket renaissance we are having in India is solely due to his pioneering efforts. Azhar was disgraced and SRT refused captaincy. It is at that time the captaincy was handed over to Ganguly. What a great job he and coach Wright did to take forward India. It is not Dravid's captaincy that was responsible for India's exit, it was the over confidence and casual attitude. As for Dravid, one can count on fingers such achievers. He scored 10,000 + runs in both the formats, took the highest number of catches in tests and has the highest number of catches per match among Indians along with the other fine fielder Azhar. He was also the wicket keeper of the team for a long time. Each generation builds on the exploits of the previous generation. If today MS is successful, he stands on the shoulders of the previous captains and players.

JKM sir, I totally agree with you. Infact i was a bit upset during the photo taking session with WC. After MSD received the WC from ICC President, the other team members (esp. Harbhajan Singh) rushed and they were carrying it for photo session and MSD was pushed backwards. Everyone wanted to pose for the photo, but no one cared to bring MSD in the front row.

JKM sir, i wanted to add one more thing. In your latest profile picture, you seem to be very smart and looks like some cricket player only. Are you wearing any cricket oriented T-Shirt in this picture?

The last time India won the world cup, I was working at Purdue in West Lafayette. No TV or internet then. I had to catch the commentary on the shortwave from the BBC. Now thanks to the internet, it is possible to watch the match on computer. Hope to watch a few more cups Smile

It is indeed gracious of MS Dhoni to acknowledge the key roles played by Kumble, Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid in reviving Indian cricket. For details go to http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc_cricket_worldcup2011/content/current/story/509399.html
