Request by friends
I've been asked to post some topics here, by my local friends. They go to India every year, and have a lot of experience in buying gifts, both for relatives living in India, and for return gifts to give away to their local friends. As we all know, only some gifts are appreciated. Some of comments that I hear and have heard over the years are hilarious!
I'll share one with you; "idhuvaa, idhu namma pandi bazaarle kidaikkume! Why did you bother?"
I'm going to post some ideas, mainly for gifts, that people have enjoyed, and used. I'm not going to mention gold and electronics, because we all know that those are the obvious choices that work well, among relatives. Please do post your experiences, about what people in your lives enjoy from other places, or even look forward to getting it.
From my experience:
Things to buy from US. Bulk-items; Pens are always a hit. Pilot pens, in various colors.
My grandpa likes the diabetic-snack bars that I get from the U.S.
All of our relatives like the compact boxes of salted nuts (cashews/almonds).
My American friends (non-indian) really liked the Thanjavur brass plates that I bought from one of those artifacts stores. We also like to buy the cotton towels from Khadhi. There are some things in life you never want to live without.
Please do post away, I'm going to compile all the favorite things in separate files and would display them at a later date.
Thank you so much.
