Neighbour lady in action!
Well this old lady is not actually my neighbour but lives in my area and her son own the vacant plot that is opposite my house. She has grown a number of plants and drumstick trees in this empty plot... Call it 'green fingers' or whatever you like, this lady's luck with plants is too good, because whatever she plants sprouts immediately and very faithfully she pours water every morning and keeps a look out for anyone that might try to cross the fence to pluck a flower or anything like that... The moment she starts shouting, the whole colony can hear her and she will go on and on and on..... No one likes to get in her way.. Now there is this drumstick tree in that plot which two crows chose to build a nest and just a couple of weeks ago they became proud parents. Last Friday I saw two baby crows (is there any other name for baby crows??) opening their pink beaks waiting for food.. Mom crow and Dad crow take turns to take care of the little ones and to their bad luck (or the old lady's) there are a lot of drumsticks on this very tree now... Old aunty wanted to pluck the drumsticks but the crows kept dashing to and fro trying to peck her. This morning after putting my kolam when I was coming upstairs I saw this very amusing sight and could not resist clicking pics (discreetly of course or I would get my mouth full) of what I saw... These days when youngsters don't want to wear helmets while driving because of its inconvenience, just see what use she has put it to... You wont believe how everyone laughed when they saw her this morning - but she just continued what she was doing (plucking a whole lot of yummy drumsticks), of course mumbling to herself while the crows dashed up and down in panic...

Hilarious! Actually, you've captured two episodes at the same time. Oru kallu - 2 mangavaa?
I admire this lady for putting the helmet to good use, and her efforts in not wasting any piece of land. I like how you have shown this lady in action by posting clips from 5 different pictures. Thank you so much!

That's right Purni, some people don't care about what people think, and are not afraid of living their lives their own way! Unfortunately, not many people have the guts to be that brave. I'll never forget this helmet incident either, and would be narrating Judy's story whenever I get a chance.

Actually even I have a smile on my lips everytime I see a helmet these days - sometimes the motorcycle rider would wonder what I am smiling at (:?)
Sumathi yes, actually I have the habit of capturing anything that comes my way on camera - in fact my kids and their friends always tease me about it - and thanks for your compliment about my narrating skills..
Lata there is nothing to say about this old lady - she actually reminds me of my grandmother who died 3 yrs ago at the age of 91.. I used to call my grandma the 'Iron Lady'. Gosh! she really had will-power that was made of steel and used to move around like a bee. Imagine till the age of 90 she used to come all the way from Cochin in the train, alone, to spend Christmas with my mum.. She'd stay with us until New Year and then go back alone. To add to it she used to bring a whole gunny bag of coconuts from her house for us... If mum volunteered to take her back she would be offended and fight with her.

Judy, I remember you talking about your grandma's will power a few months ago too, I think she was the Iron-lady of the time! My great-grandma used to be like that too, except she never left her home town!
About the iron-lady from this image, someone should hand her a pair of goggles too (for eye protection)! :0

We do get drumsticks here in the Indian stores (California), in the summer months, but not all of them are of good quality.
