thanks a lot lata for bringing this topic to d cafe, frnz, summer vacation is something pleasant and remarkable from our routine. now a days more than us our kids are too busy in making up their daily lessons.vacation should be chosen in such a way that we really enjoy . choose ur holiday spot which is far free from crowd, dust and noise. do not forget d main motive is "rest" , bcos ive seen many people planning a tedious journey in which most of d kids get tired and irritated. so rather than sight seeing select a stress free place so that ur children may have a real holiday. train would be a best transport for tours according to me. avoid carrying unnecessary luggages which may make ur journey hectic.

It was 1978 or so. I attended a special school on Structural Biology in Mahabaleshwar. At that time I was working in Madurai Kamaraj University. So I went to Madras and changed to the Bombay train and alighted at Pune. A special bus was arraned to take us from Pune to Mahabaleshwar. The college at Aurangabad who conducted the meeting had their own estate there and that is where the conference was held. We were housed in a place called "Treetop". When you open the window you see lots and lots of trees. There is a lake too at the centre of Mahabaleshwar. There is a Shiva temple near the place where it is supposed that five rivers originated (Krishna, Koyna, Venna, Savitri and Gayatri). A few miles from the place is the fort of Shivaji at Pratapgarh where Shivaji killed Afzal Khan. There is a Bhavani temple there. Mahabaleshwar is nearly 4000 feet above sea level. It has got lots of trails for hiking. Orchids too grow there. You can get different varieties of honey. One more thing, the place abounds with snakes. You can see them basking on every rock!
