Janmashtami - Sri Krishna Jayanti

Are all of you celebrating Krishna Jayanthi on the 14th? Here, in the U.S, we tend to have some kind of a confusion with the dates, most of the time, and end up calling home around the approximate festival dates, to get a confirmed response. Smile

Asha, thank you for writing your comment here. When you say you celebrate it on 12th September, do you mean your family celebrates it on the 12th, or does it mean that all Kannadigas celebrate it on the 12th. There is almost a month's gap between the two dates. Any special reason? Smile
(You are from Karnataka, aren't you, unless I'm mistaken) Smile

Oops, sorry, my mistake! But, looks like everyone from your family is well versed in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu!

Since 13th August has been declared as holiday for Gokulashtami/Krishna Jayanthi, we celebrate it that evening!
The day has only 'ashtami' thithi!
Those who follow 'panchathraya' calendar, it is on Sep.12th!

We look forward to making the "padam" kolams for this occasion. The people walking by my house sometimes stare at the white footprints the next day.

We usually follow the bridgewater temple calender here. we al;so refer to the Himalayaacademy 's panchangam. They give panchangam for many locations based on their lattitude and longitude. it is very good. It was referred to me by our uncle who is one of the founder of the SIva Vishnu Temple, DC. Here is the link to the Edision,NJ Calender
