This is my way to preserve rice paste for more than a month for wet maakolam.Soak 200gm raw rice in water minimum 3 hrs. Then grind in mixer small jar to a smooth paste adding water in between. Transfer the paste to a vessel,(Pic-1).After 2 to 3 hrs.the excess water/some water will settle at the top of the paste.Remove the water slowly as shown in Pic-2.Now transfer the thick paste to a plate and spread.(Pic-3).Keep the paste inside the fridge's chill tray. After 7 to 8 days (it depends on the thickness and size of the plate) it will dry up.(Pic-4)and break into small pieces. Can be dried on hot sun also instead of fridge, but to be saved from ants, crow and dust etc.Disolve required quantity of pieces in water while making maakolam. Note-The dried pieces to be kept in the fridge only unless once again it is not dried on hot sun.

:) In India you can buy "kozhukattai maavu" or 'patham seitha arisi mavu". These are flour ground from rice grains which have been soaked and dried.Take the desired quantity of this flour and dissolve in water. Not too watery, not too thick. here in Malaysia we can buy fine ground Thai rice flour, which we mix with water to draw maa kolam.
