I have also learnt tying flower in my young age from my mummy, my friend have thought how to make garland ( mala ), infact this is an art itself. Enclosed the photo where I did try with some jasmine flowers .. round shape .. The rose mala is normal one.

Lakshmi for a hand which puts beautiful rangolis any art will be easy to achieve!
The way you tied the jasmine is the method of making garlands, right?
I like to tie flowers as close as possible. In fact, I buy loose flowers and tie them to my satisfaction than wear it myself!

My great grandmother {chithammai], used to make such round haarams with nandhiarvatai flower daily and give it to the nearby Ayyappa temple for years and years till she fell ill and the plant was dried.
