In Coimbatore, Annalakshmi is a famous vegetarian hotel. The speciality of this hotel is the dishes are served in silver coated plate and is managed by Brahmins. So the dishes are made as per Brahmin style. The service section is run by voluntary service association and all high class people's wife are the members in the service section. We can see all the ladies in silk sarees and serve the dishes in homely way.

Nice to hear about Hotel Annalakshmi. Would you mind mentioning the exact area/ phone # as we make yearly visit to Coimbatore. I have also heard about a similar hotel in Singapore (Annapoorna) who work in the same fashion.

Lata, I think its a typo in the last line (dishes instead of fishes)

Ms.Nithya, thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to make a list of such recommendations, and post it separately.

Saraswati, I've fixed it, thank you.

mOhanaji, only a couple of years ago, I came to know that Bengali brahmins eat non-vegetarian food.

Yes, Bengali brahmins, and I am told some on the konkaN coast too, eat fish, but not meat. In fact the Bengali bride (may not be nowadays) enters first time the groom's house with a fish! I know d and f are neighbours on the keyboard. In her hurry, nityAji substituted f for a d in her message. I am sure, she meant a dish, not a fish Smile

Annalaksmi on Race course Road Kovai is serviced by professionals of all caste, creed and status who believe that serving the other human being with food is the best service which one can offer another person.

Annalakshmi on Mettupalayam road kovai again is patronised by proffessionals where food is free of cost, but before you go out there is a box where you can offer what ever amount you want. The message there says "whatever you offer today is going to feed someone tomorrow".Also there is a board which displays the number of people who had food the previous day with the collection amount.

"Athithi Devo Bhava” meaning “the guest is God” is their motto. I have visited both their restuarants personally.

Thanks so much for the details of the hotel Nitya. We have lot of relatives staying at Cmbtr and our family deity (Kula Deivam) is in Pallasena (don't know whether u hv heard of this village). So we make it a point to visit coimbatore as it is on the way to Pallasena.

Ooohh hearing a lot about Bengali brahmins. JKM sir, myself n my husband both of us are tamilians, born n brought up in Calcutta. Yes, B.brahmins eat very much non-veg and all my school mates used to tease me, saying how do we all survive without non-veg. The only time they don't eat is during durga puja i.e. from Mahalaya until dashami. I don't know why I am so excited writing about Calcutta - good old' memories.
