Here is the calendar of events planned for Diwali, at the Sunnyvale temple.

Mela was very much enjoyed by the bay area residents (and by visitors too). I didn't attend, but our kids had, and they enjoyed most of the stage performances too.

I mainly wanted to write about the Mela held in the Memorial park in Cupertino a few days ago. There were food stalls, products being sold, overall a commercialized celebration or an observation of the festival.
My family was disappointed at the belly dancing piece presented on the stage by some adults. The song and the attire were tasteless, had nothing to do with Diwali, and we took that as our cue to make an exit.
I felt sorry for the 10 to 12yr old girls who were waiting patiently for their turn to present their classical dance pieces.
In our opinion, the organizers of the Diwali mela (in Memorial park in Cupertino), should not have allowed any belly dancers to perform, since that is not how the majority of the Indians or Indian Americans observe/celebrate the festival of Diwali.
