bApu is a great artist of the last fifty years. During the fifties, he started a series in aandhrapatrika, a telugu weekly, called buDugu, chiccula piDugu about a precocious little boy similar to Dennis, the menace with his own illustrations. It caught the imagination of the people very much. Later he began to embellish the stories in telugu weeklies with his illustrations. His illustrations are characterised by the economy of lines. With a few lines, he can communicate important messages. His art is soaked in the tradition of Indian culture and mythology. He even revolutionised hand writing in telugu and today we have bApu fonts too. He formed a very good team with muLLapUDi venkaTaramaNa and directed many films in telugu with script by ramaNa. In fact, the friends are two-in-one called bApu-ramaNa. They even constructed neighbouring houses in Chennai and lived there. ramaNa passed away recently leaving a big void in bApU's life. I have a VCR tape of bApU's paintings released during one of the TANA meetings (incidentally this year's meeting is going to be in latAjI's neighbourhood . His life is described in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bapu_%28artist%29 . One can have a glimpse of his art in the following sites -
