Hi Lata let me reaffirm that Education is not teaching but drawing out the best ones from the child and you have proved to be a BEST Teacher in drawing out the hidden talents from so many corners. And also ask Lakshmi to share her secrets of the job with reference to the saying that it takes 99% of perspiration and 1% of inspiration for achieveing ANYTHING.
Dear Mam', you sure have packed a lot of details in this counter-top kolam! Lucky for you, you've ended up with a nice brown contrasting background too!
You're correct, participation is what is important, wet rice batter is okay to use. Our idea behind mentioning about the medium was to eliminate the use of pen/pencils/paper/computer. You see, when you compare drawing kolams on paper versus actually making kolams on the ground, we all know that the paper version is easier (which would make the judging kind of unfair). Besides, I've received emails from some fans who think that the art of creating kolams using dots is slowing diminishing...and I think they are right. Hence the idea of dotted-kolam contest to preserve as well as serve all our fans. I would appreciate your two cents on this too, so please do comment about that so all of the members could make up their own minds about this fact.
Dear mOhanaji, very interesting to go through the details.Old ladies like me, will have no problem in putting dots with ease, since when we learnt this art computer and grafics were not in our reach. So putting dots helped in getting a symmetry.
Thanks you all for introducing innovative kolams/ and connected details
Lata, here no space to draw kolam , so I have used Kitchen platform. No rangoli powder or mogge maavu so has to depend on wet maavu. Anyhow participation is important no?
By the way for the Marghazhi kolam competition, can we use rice wet maaavu?
Thanx lata.. i wld love to post more such kolams especially to inspire kids..this is such a wonderful art, that shld exist always! u r doing a wonderful job too!
