Submitted by judelined on Tue, 08/03/2010 - 01:40
There is a small temple next to my house "BALA NAAGATHAMMAN KOIL". Every year during the month of Aadi the temple festival is celebrated very grandly. They have a four to five day long programme beginning on Friday with 108 Paalkudam in the morning and dance and drama in the evening, followed by the Vazakku Maram Pooti on Saturday, Koozhl in the afternoon and Amman procession on Sunday night (started this year at 10 pm and ended at 5 am next morning) and finally a light music programme on Monday night.

Buddha Purnima (Buddha Jayanti) 2008 Buddha Purnima falls on the 20th of May for the current year - 2008. Buddha Buddha Jayanti (or Buddha Purnima) is the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha is the founder of Buddhism. It falls on the full moon of the fourth lunar month (month of Vaisakh in the Indian calendar, either in April or May). On Buddha Jayanti, the buddhist monastries all over the world offer prayers and recitations of Buddhist scriptures at Buddha's altar throughout the day. People visit Buddhist temples/shrines and listen to the holy chantings, and also offer alms to the monks.
