White Christmas!
As my rangOli shaNmukhi (six-faced) appeared, another shaNmukhi was making its presence felt on the east coast. The last time we had a white christmas was six years ago. The storm we had yesterday was monstrous. We had more than 20 inches of the white stuff (half a metre), unusual for December. We generally have big snow storms in January through early March. Basically, the whole area was shut down, a big letdown for the merchants during the last weekend before Christmas. It took four hours, four hands and four advils to shovel the snow. I always compare snow with a cobra. Both are extremely beautiful to look at. But one must be very careful with both. Even for experienced drivers negotiating the snow covered roads is an art. Unfortunately, people in the mid Atlantic are very poor drivers on snow. That is why just for two to three inches of snow even the federal government is shut down. Fortunately this event took place on a Friday night and Saturday. If it were to occur on a week day, I cannot imagine the myriad problems on the road. With live coverage on TV, many a time we can witness accicdents as and when they take place. Every storm takes its toll, lots of accidents with loss of life and property. This one is no exception. I think for most municipalities half the snow removal budget is over. The National Weather Service deserves kudos for their accurate forecasts. Here is a snowflake rangOli with a few pictures.

So white and pretty everywhere!
We have only visited the East coast once during summer time. California is the only state that Mani and I have lived in, so far (in US). The next stop for us, would most probably be India.
I can imagine the effort it takes to clean off the driveway/entrance. During last christmas we took a trip to Lake Tahoe, the nearest snowy place to where we live, and the only thing we forgot to take or get is the snow shovel
We also don't look forward to use our snow chains.
The next morning, we could hardly spot the place where we had parked our car. Everyone else had a shovel in their hand, except us. To top that, our part of the hotel building lost power, roads were blocked due to snowstorms, and so it was a dark/cold couple of days. The kids on the other hand do like to play in the snow. To me, the cobra just looks scary and creepy.
It is winter break mohanaji, you could take a break from this weather, and take a trip to India.
I learnt something new today; sometimes it is ok to take as much as 4 advils in one day.

Superb pictures Mohanaji, but i know how difficult to live in that weather because my daughter also experienced the same but a little less than yours.(12 to 15 inches of snow). That day my son's flight got canceled from Florida and he had to postpone the trip to the next day to visit his sister. But it is very pretty to see and enjoy.
