kolams for children - in Italy!

Hi all, here's Adele from Palermo, Italy. I admire very much Kolam's art and wonder why it is not as much known as Mandala's, at least here in Italy. I'm a primary school teacher in a place where there are many Tamil children from SriLanka and last year I used Kolams in my Art class: it was a success! I was wondering if there are easily available books or publications explicitly for schools or for children. With the help of my pupils' mothers, I'd like to create a story with a kolam inside, to introduce the children this particular form of art and to a new perspective in their world. Could you help me? Thanks a lot, adele
Lata
Hi Adele, Nice to hear from you after a long time. :) If you are looking for some kolam patterns that you can readily use for children, then here are some patterns that you could print out for starters: http://www.ikolam.com/gallery/lata/event/dilworth_math_night I had used them in one of our local schools, and the children enjoyed it. I had to put together my own booklet since I couldn't find books for kids at that time. :) And ofcourse, like you've mentioned, you could use any patterns in your stories to introduce kids to this art.

Thanks, a lot, Lata! I've checked the site regularly, but had not much time to post anything. I'm doing projects on this topic: I'm really fascinated and would like to use this theme for an intercultural art/maths project... That's mean I will be needing help!!! Your patterns are both simple and elegant, and that's very useful. Did you write a booklet accompanying the patterns? Best, adele Love is the answer
