Kolam inside water

dear all

I am a new member. My mother is a wonderful kolamist and she is really crazy about it. She never misses an ocassion, where she can light up our frontyard with all sorts of amasing kolam. She can draw them on all type of surfaces and even over water. There is a technique wherein chalk powder can be spread over water and wonderful designs can be drawn over the floating chalk powder. She has taken part in various rangoli competitions and won many prizes. However she is eager to find out one other technique of drawing kolams. Some where she saw a kolam painted inside water. From that day she is trying too hard to find out the technique and even tried her own, but nothing materialised.

Izhai Kolam

Does any one have patterns/samples of Izhai Kolam, the kind with lines and curves generally put on auspicious days in a Brahmin house?

Aiswarya kolam

can anyone tell me where can i find Aiswarya kolam?

the name of each categories of Kolam ?

Hello! Lata- san
you categolize variable Kolam patterns in the web Q&A.

May I call them as the following in Tamil

The dots are encircled with curves or looped around with lines drawn around the dots.=Sikku(knot/ entangled) Kolam, the un-encircled with half around as Neli(snaky curve) Kolam
The dots are connected to form a pattern or different patterns.=Kudo(line)/Kambi(rod-string) Kolam like a Lotus
Line kolams have kolams drawn entirely of different sizes of lines , mostly with no dots. = Kudo Kolam
Free form kolams called Rangoli are kolams with either no dots at all or with a minimal amount of dots and the use of more geometrical shapes.
=Rangoli or Free Kolam
